On 26 September, PADA Studios will once again open the gates of its gallery, situated in the Barreiro Industrial Estate, at 6.00 pm, showcasing the results of the 10 artists’ month-long residency at PADA in an exhibition curated by Paula Ferreira.
The exhibition and open studios, which are free to enter and open to visitors between 6.00 pm and 9.00 pm on Saturday, allow the local community to discover and engage with artistic practices that have been influenced by, and offer new perspectives on, the potential of the Barreiro Industrial Park. With artistic works ranging from painting to sculpture and video – and, in some cases, using discarded materials – the work of this group of artists offers fresh perspectives on what we consider to be obsolete materials, transforming them and giving them new meaning.
PADA’s 59th group in residence comprises artists from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Malta and other countries, notably Flávio Rodrigues, an artist selected through the PADA Grant, Pedro Roque, an artist selected through the Odemira Grant, and Camila Vale, who is participating in the residency in parallel through the Barreiro Grant programme and will soon have a dedicated exhibition.
The exhibition is curated by Paula Ferreira, an independent researcher, writer and curator. Born in São Paulo, she lives between Brazil and Portugal. Her work draws on the practice of writing to critically examine modes of circulation and production in the cultural sphere. She founded Aos Cuidados, a project that brings together various initiatives – including exhibitions, film cycles, publications and discussion groups – to explore the intersections between the ecologies of care and art.
PADA Studios is an independent, non-profit, artist-run organisation based in Barreiro. Founded in 2018, PADA offers artists the time, space and support to develop their practice in a unique post-industrial setting. Its residency programmes promote dialogue, experimentation and critical exchange in a collaborative environment.
